Self Imposing Guests: An Unprecious gem: Crack stone
Have you ever been told by a friend or a relative that they were coming to visit and that they're going to be STAYING WITH YOU? It would not be so bad if you had invited them to be your guests, but they have taken it upon themselves to become your residents. Well that is the situation for me in two weeks. I have a friend who has called me and has informed me that she will be visiting with me the weekend of the 29th. Forget if I have plans, because she expects I'll drop what I have to do to accomodate her. Well...that's not going to be the case for my friend. She can crash at my pad, but I won't be changing my plans and I won't be including her in on everything on my itenerary. Don't get me wrong, I love entertaining, but I do so at my own convenience. I guess my irritation has more to do with the fact that she announced and had not bothered to check with me if this would be a good time for her to visit me. It really isn't the best time for me, since I am planning to travel myself to see my friends in Maryland. However, I have asked my friends prior if I may come to visit them. So basically I have decided to hold off on my holiday for this visit. I have alternative plans in town, but I feel that I should not expect to be this friend's only means of entertainment during her stay.

Wow! That's not considerate at all. I've had something similar happen to me, but this was a family member. In my case, the family member was allowed to stay, but they wanted to have friends come and stay too. Mind you, I wasn't asked. I had to tell them that it wasn't happening, regardless of how they felt about me saying so. It had to be said, else they would do it over and over again.
I hope you'll be able to speak to them about this and I pray that they are receptive to your wishes.

Hi KeKe and Aziza...thanks for your posts. Another friend of ours has convinced my guest to come to town in late August. She is not pleased about it, but it works out better because my AC is not working and this is supposed to be a very hot week. High heat and inconsiderate guests do not mix! ;-)

i'm glad it worked. Is the AC fixed yet. Whew!!! it's blazing here.
